Antiviral medications are used specifically for treating infections that are strongly suspected due to viruses. Most antiviral drugs are used for specific viral infections and a broad-spectrum antiviral medicine is effective against a variety of viruses. Antiviral medications are not prescribed for bacterial or fungal infections.
